Auto Parts from Pakistan Can Now Compete Internationally

During the last 2 years, auto parts that have been ‘made in Pakistan’ have improved their quality massively. So much that they are now being exported to other countries in a very short time.

This was shared by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently, which provides technical expertise for improving auto parts quality and capacity.

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) organized a review of the first phase of the auto parts improvement program. JICA and SMEDA jointly started a project to improve the quality of auto parts. For its part, JICA provided financial and technical assistance to improve the quality of the local auto parts industry.

This project was started in 2015 and its first phase was completed in June 2017. During the past 2 years, auto parts experts from Japan visited many SME industries of Pakistan related to the same.  The aim of project was to reduce complaints and problems in the Pakistani auto parts manufacturing sector.

Japanese experts provided training to Pakistani technicians and machinery was also upgraded. This made the Pakistani industry capable of improving the quality of auto parts.

Head of JICA team, Mr. Hiroshi Kaneki, highlighted the role of Japanese experts and technical assistance. He congratulated the team members on successfully completing the first phase of the project. With this project, not only the Pakistani auto industry benefited but also contributed to the increase in exports of auto parts.

“Before this project, ‘Made in Pakistan’ auto parts were not the focus. With improved quality and production complaints reduced and the increase in demand, now Pakistani auto parts can compete in the international market.” Hiroshi Kaneki added.

SMEDA Chief Executive Fuad Hashim Rabbani thanked the Japanese for their assistance. He said that this project will create more job opportunities in Pakistan. The aim of the project was to improve the quality of auto parts and spur increased production.

“After the completion of the first phase, ‘Made in Pakistan’ auto parts can compete in the international market. Pakistan has started to export auto parts.” Fuad Hashim added.

In this meeting it was also noted that auto parts industry not only enhanced its quality, it also increased their production. Many manufacturers increased their capacity and were able to employ more technical resources as a result.
