Govt Asked to Waive 35% Import Duty on CNG Kits

Chairman All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas Association (APCNGA), Abdul Ghiyas Paracha told APP that the association has requested the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to waive 35% import duty on CNG cylinders and kits. They had also requested the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to approve imports of latest lightweight CNG cylinders.

He said:

“We have got approval from Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to import lightweight CNG cylinders and latest Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) compatible kits. But, now the Association is waiting for Ministry’s reply on its request for the duty exemption to start the import”.

Talking about the revival of Liquefied Natural Gas and its availability to the public, he said:

“Now, after import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), gas supply to all consumers has improved significantly, so there is no justification for the import duty”.

He further added that they’re aiming to revive the CNG industry and that duty-free imports would help a great deal in this regard. This would also facilitate the inexpensive provision of CNG and also achieve industry environmental environment friendliness.

Talking about the arrangements for the import of CNG equipment for 660cc to 3000cc vehicles, he said:

“Two foreign companies from Italy and Singapore have agreed to provide EFI compatible CNG kits and new lightweight cylinders in Pakistan”.

The duty-waiver would be a great initiative for the CNG consumers as they will get 8-10% more mileage and money savings. The cylinders will have the same CNG filling capacity of 8 kg, similar to the old 60 kg cylinders, however, the use of latest technology would offer better mileage.

He further told,

“It will be cost-effective as compared to the increased prices of vehicles. However, price of new cylinders and kits will be determined after their import”.

Paracha was optimistic of the revival of CNG industry in Pakistan, hoping that Pakistan will soon be among the leading consumer country in the coming years.
