Lenovo Caught Lying About Android Oreo Updates

If you own a Motorola smartphone we have good news for you. Lenovo has published a list of phones that will get the Android Oreo update.

Strangely Moto G4 Plus was not a part of the list even though Lenovo had previously announced that the phone will be getting the update.

Removing Evidence

Motorola removed all banners and ads that contained evidence of the promise it had made earlier, after publishing list. People were quick to notice the change and retaliated by posting pictures of the current and previous banners on the Internet.

The protest resulted in Motorola accepting its mistake and keep its promise by agreeing to update Moto G4 Plus to Android O after all.

Lenovo Clarifies Its Mistake

Lenovo explained that the confusion arose because of a mistake made by its marketing team.

The company explained that that it updates the Moto G series to only one major Operating System (OS) – Android Nougat, which it had already done. There had been an error in the marketing material of Moto G4 Plus which said that it will be updated to Android O.

No Release Date Announced Yet

However, despite their policy, the company intends to keep its promise. The time frame for upgrading to Android O for the Moto G4 Plus hasn’t been announced yet. The users might have to wait up to 6 months until the new update is officially released.

Despite Moto G4 having a similar hardware to the Moto G4 Plus, it won’t be updated to Android O. Only Moto G4 Plus will be updated to Android O as only G4 Plus was mentioned in its marketing material.
