Court Orders HEC to Certify Degrees of Medical Graduates

The Lahore High Court has ordered the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to help medical students in certifying their degrees at the earliest.

The order came after the petitioners, two medical students belonging to the Fatima Jinnah Medical Collge (FJMC), faced issues in getting a house job after graduating from the university.

The issue that they faced was that even after getting their MBBS degree from Fatima Jinnah Medical College (FJMC), their degrees were not certified by HEC.

The higher education watchdog, for its part, said that it declined to certify the degrees since it believes that FJMC is not a considered as a constituent college of FJMU.

The counsel for the petitioners pleaded to the court that since the two students had completed their MBBS successfully and also had their degrees with them, however they were still not offered house-jobs since HEC has not certified their MBBS. If that is not rectified, the petitioners career lies in ruins, the court was told.

FJMC is a Constituent College of the FJMU

To help clarify the matter, a law officer informed the court that HEC’s stand is not true and that a notification by the Punjab Government has been issued in this regard.

The notification says that FJMC is a constituent college of the FJMU. If there was any further doubt, the law officer mentioned that soon the federal government is also going to issue the same notification in this regard.

To conclude, degrees of the petitioners can be verified based on an undertaking given to HEC’s counsel in this regard, and resolve all outstanding issues once and for all.
