Google Compute Engine Now Offers 96 CPUs & 624GB of RAM

The improved Google Compute Engine is here and it packs a huge punch. Its so fast now that some are claiming Google’s Compute Engine “has gone wild.”

All your resource draining applications can be covered easily thanks to Google’s cloud based virtual machine service called the Google Compute Engine. It can dial up to 96 CPUs at once and has outrageous 624 GB of RAM.

About Google Compute Engine

Google Compute Engine is a component of the Google Cloud Platform and basically a part of the infrastructure that runs Google Search, YouTube and other services offered by the company. It enables launching virtual machines (VMs) on demand.

Bill Gates allegedly remarked once “Who would ever need more than 640K RAM?”. He surely didn’t imagine this coming.

This is a huge boost because only a few months ago in March, Google announced that their efficient GCE can manage 64 vCPUs and offer 416 GB RAM – This was already a double of the 32 vCPUs the GCE could offer before.

Powered by Intel Xeon

The engine runs on Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Skylake) and thanks to the chip’s efficiency – it offers the the most vCPUs. The chipset provides 20% faster compute performance, 82% faster HPC performance, and almost 2X the memory bandwidth when compared with the previous gen of Xeon processors.

96 vCPUs are available in three capacities:

• Standard: 96 vCPUs and 360 GB of memory
• High-CPU: 96 vCPUs and 86.4 GB of memory
• High-Memory: 96 vCPUs and 624 GB of memory

To avoid resource wastage, you can use custom machine types and extended memory with 96 vCPUs and 624 GB memory, allowing you to create the machine model you need. This is just the beginning though, if 624 gigs are not enough for you – Google is working on a code that will offer 4 TB of memory.

Pricing starts at 4.95$ per hour for the base model.
