SBP Details How to Protect Your Debit & Credit Cards in Pakistan

Protecting your payment cards is crucial which is exactly why State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has released a public warning about protecting payment cards and has also advised to not provide personal information to unreliable sources.

The following instructions were released by SBP:

  • Secure identity: Ensure your identity is privatized before making any payments.
  • Secure Payments: Provide card details to only secured and trusted sources.
  • Review Statements: Keep track of payments made through your card and syncretize them regularly.
  • Don’t Give Away Card: Restrain yourself from allowing or giving your card to others to make payments or withdraw cash.
  • Keep Generic Pin: Avoid keeping the same PIN for a long time, as it may result in impotent situations for the card holder.
  • Avoid Throwing Away Receipts: Receipts may be helpful to balance payments with your account, so avoid throwing them away.
  • Discarding Card: Be considerate while discarding your payment card since not taking precautions may lead to fraud or embezzlement. Cut the card into at least into four vertical parts before discarding it.
  • Lodge a Complaint: Promptly lodge a complaint with your bank in case your card gets stolen, robbed or misplaced, or as soon as you take notice of any miscellaneous transaction in your account statement.

Although the guidelines released by SBP are very generic, but many people make these mistakes. We hope that this helps people down the road.
