A special Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) court has convicted three former bank employees in a Rs. 976 million embezzlement case, handing down lengthy prison sentences and hefty fines.
According to the FIA’s Lahore chapter, the court found Muhammad Raza Hassan, Mohsin Abbas Naqvi, and Syeda Fareeha Shah guilty of misusing their official positions to embezzle more than Rs. 976 million from the accounts of 39 customers.
The principal convict, Muhammad Raza Hassan, was sentenced to 28 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 600 million.
His co-convicts, Mohsin Abbas Naqvi and Syeda Fareeha Shah, were each awarded 18 years of rigorous imprisonment along with fines of Rs. 300 million each.
The FIA said the case was investigated by its Commercial Banking Circle Lahore, which uncovered evidence of large-scale financial fraud involving customer accounts.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Director Malik Sikandar Hayat, while Assistant Director (Legal) Barrister Rana Uzair represented the prosecution in court.
The FIA said the convictions reflect the outcome of a comprehensive investigation and successful prosecution of the high-profile financial crime.
