Asian Development Bank to Fund IT Park in Karachi

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced to finance IT park in Karachi. Along with setting up the park in Karachi, ADB has also agreed to help strategize other IT parks across the country.

In an effort to revive the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in the country,  Information Technology and Telecom Ministry have commenced the establishment of Research and Development fund for ICT. Furthermore, the government has also requested ADB to help achieve this goal.

The Chinese government will also put in its efforts in laying the interlinked optical fiber cables and the establishment of north landing gateways which will result in a high-speed infrastructure. The same system will be implemented in the first-of-its-kind IT Park that is to be constructed in Karachi. Integration of latest solutions to solve ICT problems will be a great effort to bring modernized IT environment to Pakistan.

ADB will also help the government in the development of smart city strategy. Along with that, it will also monitor the project. To be prepared for any technological issues, ADB has also offered to support ICT skills in higher education. Any policy inputs were already put in motion when ICT Policy 2017 was outlined.

IT Park will help in the development of ICT growth in Pakistan. This project is in direct alignment of ‘Digital Pakistan Policy 2017’. Furthermore, this investment will also help in the establishment of a strong Information Technology Industry in Pakistan.

This surely is a great step towards a long-term IT development goal that Pakistan wishes to establish.
