Pakistan Railways Announces 3 New Train Routes

The Ministry of Railways is expanding their area of operations across the country after a recent announcement was made by the department’s spokesperson.

The official revealed that the Pakistan railway will now operate on three separate routes during the current fiscal year. Following routes were mentioned:

  • Kohat – Rawalpindi
  • Sibi – Khost
  • Karachi – Mirpur Khas

“At present, 104 passenger and 60 freight trains are operative on the system per day,” the official revealed in a press statement.

The spokesperson said that “the loss was budgeted at Rs. 33.5 billion during the fiscal year 2013-2014 which was brought down to Rs. 32.35 billion through increased revenue and reduced expenditure on the back of improved managerial control.”

He said that the department kept on increasing the revenue in the fiscal year 2015 and the fiscal year 2016 and decreased the loss to Rs. 27.246 and Rs. 26.99 billion, respectively. “The accounts for the fiscal year 2017 are being finalized, however, the loss is likely to increase this year due to increase in the salaries and pensions paid to employees,” he confessed.

Other than that, he also told the media that the renovation of Main Line 1, that connects Peshawar to Karachi, has begun.

Moreover, the new dry port near Havelian is also under construction.

  • No Doubt Saad Rafique is great politician and good performer. He gave a new life to a dead railway of Pakistan. Developed transparency in system and overhauled the whole system. Most importantly he corrected the processes that had plagued the railway system in decades.
    Good work must be appreciated.
