Government of Pakistan has decided to not to give extension in service to Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, the outgoing Chairman PTA and Mr. Tariq Sultan, the outgoing Member Finance of PTA, we have checked with sources.
According to details shared with ProPakistani, despite strong recommendations from the committee that was specifically formed to evaluate the service extension of Chairman PTA and Member Finance, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the Prime Minister of Pakistan decided to advertise the jobs to fill both of the top slots of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
The five member committee headed by Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal had recommended to give the extension in service for both the officials.
The committee comprised of Secretary Information Technology, Additional Secretary Law Division, Additional Secretary Establishment Division, and Additional Secretary Cabinet Division while it was chaired by the Interior Minister.
Committee had recommended that service of both the officials should be extended, based on the performances of both the officers during their four year terms.
These recommendations, however, were met with opposition as an anonymous letter was sent to all concerned authorities including the Prime Minister’s Office that raised questions over the possible extension in service of Chairman PTA and Member Finance.
This letter was not the only reason behind the decision of not extending the services, as the government wants to appoint a more strict and relatively trusted individual as Chairman PTA.
A notification for the fresh advertisement for the appointment of Chairman PTA has already been issued by Prime Minister’s Office and MoIT is likely to advertise the job in the next couple of weeks.
Notification said that both Dr. Ismail Shah and Mr. Tariq Sultan can also apply for the positions.
While it is too early to speculate, according to rumors an MoIT member and a high ranking officer at PTCL are strong contenders for the Chairman PTA slot.
