Xiaomi’s Rumored Mi 7 Could be the Flagship Killer of 2018

Xiaomi Mi 7 is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2017 and rumors regarding its specs and various details are already making rounds. Going by the rumors, you might want to hold off on purchasing a smartphone till it’s released.

According to Chinese insiders, the Mi 7 is going to be the best smartphone ever launched by Xiaomi and it’ll retain competitive pricing.

Major Specs

The successor of Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to feature a Samsung-manufactured 6.01-inch bezel-less, 18:9 aspect ratio display. While there’s some debate on the variants, it’s expected to be made available in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options.

The device will be powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC and with a 3,500 mAh battery.

Reports claim that the Mi 7 will employ a 16 MP dual-rear camera setup with optical image stabilization.

No 3D Face Recognition and Headphone Jack

Xiaomi has been working on face recognition technology endlessly. Previously there was some indication that Mi 7 will be equipped with face recognition technology but not anymore.

Reportedly, the company feels that the technology has to be improved further before its integration with the smartphones.

Xiaomi is following the footsteps of the iPhone 7 to remove the headphone jack from the Mi 7. Audio will be routed via the USB Type-C port which is also used for charging and data transfer.

Similar Fingerprint Sensor and Splash Resistance

Just like the Mi 6, Mi 7 will have the fingerprint sensor embedded underneath the glass on the front. It is worth mentioning that the sensor isn’t underneath the display, like in the new iPhone and Samsung phones, but underneath the front glass layer instead.

Additionally, Xiaomi Mi 7 will be splash resistant with all openings, including the SIM tray, sealed and protected from splashes of water

Price and Availability

The next Mi flagship is going to be priced at CNY 2,769 (approximately Rs 44, 278) for the 6GB/64GB variant. The higher-end variant with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage will cost CNY 3,026 (approximately Rs 48,388).

Xiaomi has not provided an official release date regarding the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 7 but the expected launch date is April 2018.
