NAB Speeds Up Process to Recover Rs 900 Billion from Pending Corruption Cases

Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice Javed Iqbal, has directed the concerned Divisions of NAB to file an application for early hearing of 1138 cases under corruption reference trials so that over Rs. 900 billion can be recovered from the corrupt.

He has sought complete details of inquiries, investigations and under trial corruption references filed in the respective accountability courts and requested a report from operation and prosecution divisions of the NAB.

According to NAB, the chairman has directed the concerned Divisions of NAB to file an application for early hearings so that over Rs. 900 billion can be recovered, deposited to the national exchequer and the corrupt could be brought to justice.

He sought the details of as many as 499 Inquiries, 287 Investigations and 1,138 under trial corruption references filed by the NAB in the respective Accountability Courts, said a press release.

The chairman wanted to know why these cases had not been concluded in the 10 month prescribed time period, as per NAB SOP, and what action has been taken against the responsible officers on failure to conclude all under-process cases within the expected time period as per the law.
