CAA Crisis Puts Question Mark Over Faisalabad Airport’s Inauguration

With the inauguration date for extension work of Faisalabad airport just 2 days away, Secretary Aviation Division is working hard to resolve the management crisis at Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) before the inauguration.

CAA has set Jan 20th 2018 as the inauguration date for Faisalabad airport. Prime Minister Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will be the chief guest of the event. Adviser Aviation Division Sardar Methab Abbasi and Secretary Aviation Irfan Elahi will also be at the event.

According to CAA officials, due to increase in passenger volume at Faisalabad airport, an extension was needed. Now Faisalabad airport is equipped with latest travelling facilities. The covered area of the terminal building has more than doubled, from 36,000 square feet up to 73,000 square feet.

“The seating capacity at the waiting lounge has also been increased up to 600 from 400 at international and 200 at domestic lounge. 4 passenger briefing counters at domestic and 12 at international terminals have been established.” CAA official told.

A fire alarm and hydrant system has also been installed at the terminal building and on apron area. Extensions for aircraft hangars and taxi area have also been implemented. For security, CCTV cameras were also installed.

On the other hand, the management crisis at CAA is still unresolved. Sectary Aviation Irfan Elahi, who is also the chairman of CAA’s board of directors, is personally handling the matter.

Sources told ProPakistani that Irfan Elahi had a meeting with protesting officers and worker union representatives and also met with Director General CAA Air Vice Marshal Rtd. Asim Suleman separately.
