Supreme Court Bans Distribution of 24 Mineral Water Brands in Pakistan

The nation-wide distribution of 24 mineral water companies has been stopped by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar chaired a three-member bench meeting on Thursday (today). He was presented the details of the provision of clean water case.

The counsel for the accused mineral water company claimed that the water being provided to the public is pure and totally safe for drinking.

The company’s lawyer said:

The court can summon the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PCSQA) report if required.

Chief Justice Nisar remarked that outcomes of the hearing will not be changed by hiring a prestigious lawyer.

He added:

Companies should have the consciousness to provide clean water, we have to care for the people and the children.

The court then ordered all 24 companies to stop the distribution of water until further notice.

The court postponed the hearing for an unspecified period of time.

  • This is not the end of the story. There is the other side of this story as well. One of the brands like Springley has multiple certifications and accreditations under its name from national and international bodies, namely ISO9001, ISO14001, HACCP, HALAL, ISO 17025, ISO 17043, PCP, Green Office and Organic Certification. Even the PFA allow them to operate after testing their fresh samples. But now PSC jump in to protect the 14% of the elite population from using bottled Water. I would like to request the SC to focus on the Tap Water situation that 84% of the population is currently using. Please focus on real issues.
