Are Pakistani Shops Selling Flour with Plastic and Rubber in Them?

Recently, some videos surfaced online which claimed that the flour used in Pakistani homes and restaurants contains rubber and plastic. They implyied that these two substances are what makes it elastic and sticky.

Understandably, that video went viral. People also started accusing food companies of providing substandard flour to the masses. The truth, however, is another matter entirely.

Saima Rasheed, a registered dietitian has clarified that those reports and claims are wrong. She explained the whole thing in an interview to a private channel and said that reports of rubber and plastic present in flour products are wrong.

Plastic is Not There

Dr Saima told that the plastic-looking material that we observe in those viral videos is actually gluten, which is naturally present in wheat and other crops.

She explained the whole process for extracting gluten from flour dough. Saima said that if you take the dough and wash it under a faucet, the wheat flour will wash away, leaving behind a plastic-like material. That plastic-like material is a naturally occurring protein found in many seeds.

Gluten actually helps the dough stay together. Doctor Saima also said that the reason corn/maize flour doesn’t hold together is because it lacks gluten.

Rest assured, your flour may or may not contain other pollutants. But plastic or rubber is definitely not present in your roti, biscuits or pizza.

  • HAHAHAH……..DR Samina ap ki soch ko salam ha ap yeh experiment khud kr k dekhein
aur yeh bataein k kia her flour me gluten hota ha? nahi hota yeh sab bukwaas hai jo ap ny ki hai? i personaly do this experiment in my home with two types of flours one is “NATIONAL AATAA” and the other “CHAKAI KA AATA” THE NATIONAL ATTA REMAINS PLASTIC MATERIAL AS A LEFTOVERS AND CHAKKI AATA IS WHOLE DISSOLVED UNDER WATER…..
NOW TELL ME K AGER CHAKKI KA ATA GLUTEN K BAGAIR HAI TU US KI ROTI ROUND KAISY BUN JATI HA ?
AP LOG SAB GOVT K CHAMCHEY HO

AP KI SOCH KO SALAM HA AND AP KI DEGREE KO BHI SALAM HA

    • There are two main methods of grinding are used. if you remove coarse part (Brown Flour) you will get different amount of Gluten which mostly give you sticky material leftover after washing. But, full grounded flour (White Flour) will not give you this sticky material.
Bay the way, Plastic can’t dissolve in flour so, no way to addition in it..
P.S In our childhood,we always make that sticky material from Wheat Floor of our own Farms ;-)

    • koi bhi wheat ka aata gluten k bagair nahi hota.. chahay wo mill ka ho ya kisi local chakki ka…try at home this one…. Gluten hi aate ki Aapas me jhore rekhti hai….

      • Agr wheat aata gluten k bagair nahi hota chakki k aata me b us ko hona chahye me ny Lahore ki 2 diffrent places sy aata ly k yeh check kia ha bt yeh problem just packet waly aata me hi ha ap pehly khud apny ghar per experiment kro phir clue pesh lrna go to any SACHI CHAKKI n take some aata and than take some YAADGAAR AATA or NATIONAL AATA than check than give your reply…….

  • Confirmed..This is happening in all the stores in all the towns in Lahore; people are fooled in the name of Chakki Atas; its 100% mixtures and grinded with Plastic and rubber particles.

        • Article does not prove anything.. it just clearifies confusion driven by some unknown video.which goes viral. Becoz people don,t have knowlege what wheat flour contains?
You can not imagine what profit industry also gain by just separting bran, Samolina & Farina.
Where ever you search..wheat flour cannt be with out gluten.Untill it is highly milled to separate it..

    • Mere dost plastic is more expensive than CHAKKI ATA. Please do some research before sharing your thoughts.

  • پاکستانیوں کی اسی عادت کی وجہ سے تو پاکستان میں شاہدمسعود عامر لیاقت جیسے بھانڈوں کا کاروبارچلتا ہے

  • Petrol, and other organic chemicals are used in preparation of Plastic. Preparing white plastic (to cameouflage in white flour aka AATA) is needed to make a fool-proof mixture with fluor. Not to mention the griding cost of plastic because plastic cannot be grinded by the same machine that grinds wheat. Not to refute any claims of adulteration (aka milawat), if grinded-white-plastic were to be mixed in flour, it would seriously increase the price of flour 3-fold which will be impractical from sales point of view. Its like people say, Kerosene OIL (which is more expensive) is mixed with petrol which is not cost effective (this was cost-effective when Kerosene oil was cheaper). Therefore, logically, it cannot be plastic which is mixed with flour. It can possibly be other natural substance adultered with flour that can disguise itself in flour but it can not be plastic in my opinion.

  • Plastic ka rate zyada hy jo k white color mein kam az kam 100 rupay kilo ho ga or Aata 50 rupay kilo ab kon plastic daly ga ?

  • MY QUESTION THAT WHAT IS THIS IN POLY BAG FLOUR WHICH IS NOT IN CHAKKI FLOUR?? IN LEFTOVERS
KINDLY DONT CONFUSE THE GENERAL PUBLIC
