A man was sentenced to 6 years prison along with a fine of Rs 0.7 million, on Friday in Lahore, for harassing and blackmailing a woman online.
In addition to that, the culprit was also ordered to pay an amount of Rs 1 million as a compensation to the victim, who is actually the wife of a Pakistan Air Force officer living in Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur Sharqia.
Usman Bin Masood, arrested back in 2017, was sentenced by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Magistrate Imtiaz Ali Bajwa – under Sections 20 (offenses against dignity), 21 (offenses against modesty) and 24 (cyberstalking) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

He was convicted of cyber offenses which included digitally manipulating the victim’s photos, and harassing and blackmailing her on social media.
A complaint was registered by the air force officer after Masood threatened to share his wife’s falsified photos on media.
The cybercrime rate tends to increase every day in Pakistan. It’s a fast-growing felon which is hard to detect. Even with the strict laws infused by the government, the culprits continue harassing and blacking innocent people and destroying their lives.
