Ronchi, Hales Ensure Islamabad United Secure a Place In Playoffs

After some initial losses, Islamabad United have gained some serious momentum in the PSL. Misbah-led side bagged another thumping victory over Multan Sultans, a team which had stayed at the top of the table for better part of the first round but are now in danger of being eliminated.

Multan Sultans can only wait and see how Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings perform in their next matches. Depending on the results of these upcoming fixtures, Multan might manage to secure a place in the playoffs.

The victory means Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators have now qualified for the playoffs.

Islamabad United Innings

With Alex Hales joining the team and top order in sublime form, it was going to be tough for any bowling line up to curb the flow of runs. Luke Ronchi’s 58 from 36 and Alex Hales’ 46 from 33 provided a solid platform for Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf to power Islamabad United to a huge total.

The team posted a mammoth 185 for the loss of 4 wickets, hoping to seal their play-offs berth.

Multan Sultans Innings

Multan’s top order crumbled to 20-4 in 5.1 overs in the pursuit of a mammoth 186 in their last league game. An explosive 73 from the West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard provided a ray of hope to the Sultans fans but no one else stuck around to get the team close to the target. Just when it looked like Sultans might be back in the game, Pollard was dismissed on a full ball from Muhammad Sami. Sultans eventually lost by 33 runs.
