Careem Captains Protest Against Recent Murders in Islamabad

Following the recent spree of robberies and deaths of Careem drivers, dozens of cab drivers gathered at the National Press Club Islamabad yesterday, protesting against the continuous killings of their fellow drivers.

The protests follow two recent murders in Islamabad in snatching and mugging cases. The protestors were moving in the form of a procession and a press conference was arranged afterward.

This tragedy has occurred for the second time in 20 days. We need to ensure, that there are regulations and laws – when the laws are made we must enforce them strictly and strongly.

While criticising the role of the government, Omer said that in addition to demanding strict actions from the concerned authorities, they are working on options including limiting the rides to certain areas after a certain time of day.

Careem’s higher management is also working in coordination with the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) to devise a system that can help in collecting substantial evidence against such crimes. Also, special safety committees will be formed in each city consisting of captains, customers, and LEAs to ensure the safety of the drivers.

While the participants of the press conference criticized the government, Careem management also urged the drivers to avail a special car insurance so that the drivers don’t resist in such incidents.
