Fitbit Launches the Budget Versa Smartwatch

People who had never considered Fitbit as an alternative to the Apple Watch may finally have something to sway their opinions.

Fitbit, which had acquired Pebble (maker of the first popular smartwatch) recently, is releasing the Versa smartwatch with a special attention towards fitness tracking.

Fitness Tracking

It does a lot of health-focused tasks you’d expect it to perform, such as workout and heart-rate monitoring, aerobic exercises, VO2, as well as Fitbit Coach (a pro version will set you back $40 a year). In all, there are 15 exercise modes. It also looks quite a lot like the Apple Watch, with the exception of the crown.

Fitbit introducting female health tracking

It’s gentler, smaller design can also make it a hit among women, in addition to having a female health-tracking program. The Versa can also survive up to 50 meters underwater. There’s no GPS (you’ll have to connect your phone with it for that), though, you can use NFC (optional in $229 model) for payments.

Other Features

It can store up to 300 songs on board, connects via Bluetooth (supporting wireless headphones), and runs on the new version 2.0 of Fitbit’s custom OS. It comes with its own app marketplace where you can get the services you prefer.

The touchscreen on the front is fully colored, and accompanied by three buttons on the side. Battery life is said to last up to 4+ days. The bands are also sweat and water-resistant, available in Black, White, Gray, Peach, and Periwinkle.

Different Colored Fitbit Smartwatches

Fitbit is not always known for its low cost, however, the new Versa feels quite reasonable at $199. It’ll be available in April in Black, Grey and Rose Gold for the watch. It is also $100 cheaper than Fitbit’s own Ionic.
