Lenovo has announced a duo of entry-level phones, the K5 and K5 Play. Both of the phones follow the current trends with 18:9 or 2:1 displays, dual cameras, and fingerprint readers.
Don’t mistake these for the Lenovo Vibe K5, which came out a few years ago.
Design and Display
Lenovo K5
K5 and K5 Play look nearly identical with a glass back, same horizontal dual cameras etc. save for a few minor details (the back cameras are spaced further apart in K5 compared to K5 play, the display bezels are slightly smaller on K5 as well).
A 5.7” 2:1 panel is used on both phones, with HD+ (1440 x 720) resolution, which sounds a bit low even for a low-end phone today. The K5 will be available in Black, Grey, and Blue, while the Play model substitutes the Grey for Gold.
Internals and Storage
The K5 comes with an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor, with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage. On the hand, K5 Play model replaces that with Snapdragon 430 with 2/3 GB RAM and either 16 or 32 GB storage.

Interestingly, K5 runs Android 7.1 Nougat With ZenUI 3.1 while K5 Play comes with Android Oreo 8.0 coupled with ZenUI 3.7. Both of them are dual SIM phones by default, with a hybrid microSD+SIM card slot.
Camera(s)
The K5 comes with a 13 MP + 5 MP camera setup with a LED flash, likely to help produce bokeh shots. The Play instead replaces the 5 MP unit with a 2 MP sensor (13+2 MP). Both come with 8 MP cameras on the front.
Battery
Both phones have a battery capacity of 3000 mAh, with no fast charging support.
Pricing is set at around $140 for the K5, while the K5 Play is available for a much lower $110. They’ll be released this April.
