Xiaomi Reveals the Mi 6X with AI Powered Dual Cameras

By Haamiz Ahmed and Azeem Ullah

Xiaomi’s long-awaited Mi A1 successor is here. Meet the Xiaomi Mi 6X (A2 in international markets) which comes with upgraded internals, better cameras and AI.

Design and Display

Red Mi 6X Front and Back

The design looks exactly the same as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, especially the iPhone-esque vertically oriented dual cameras on the back.

Mi 6X’s display is a large 6” IPS panel with 1080p FHD+ resolution with a fingerprint sensor on the back. It also comes with Face Unlock to complete the package.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, you get Qualcomm’s prime mid-range SoC, the Snapdragon 660, with its two clusters of quad-core Kryo 260 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and 2.2 GHz. There’s either 4 or 6 GB RAM, with 64/128 GB storage. Storage is expandable via a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot.

The phone is running Android 8.1 Oreo and comes with Xiao Ai, Xiaomi’s in-house AI based virtual assistant.

The AI is capable of translating menus and signboards you see using your phone’s camera. If you’re watching a video, the AI will let you purchase whatever you’re watching in the video easily. Another feature is that it can calculate calories in a food item if you point the camera at it. Useful for weight watchers.

Connectivity options include USB-C, IR sensor, and Bluetooth LE, however, a major omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is still commonplace in midrange phones.

Camera(s)

At the back sits a dual-camera setup featuring Sony lenses in each sensor. There’s a primary 12 MP f/1.8 sensor, followed by a 20MP f/2.2 telephoto lens. This allows for bokeh effect as well as up to 2X lossless zoom.

The front also comes with a 20 MP sensor with a LED Flash. The camera comes with AI focused features including automatic and assisted adjustments, as well as 16 portrait mode options.

    • filhal note 5 pro ka wait ho raha hai Pakistan mein.. nd mi 6x #A2 6 months tak ay ga. after global launch

    • They have not yet launched RN 5 Pro which supposed to be launched in Mid April.

      • RN 5 Pro will be launched in May so we’ll have to wait more for Mi 6X to arrive.

        • Tu kiya Mi 6x sirf china mein release hoga. Globally Mi A2 release ho ga shayad.

          • Mi 6X aur Mi A2 same phone hein just operating system different hein, Mi 6X mein MIUI aur Mi A2 ( Global Variant ) mein Stock Android hoga.

            • han mein janta hn k same phone hai. Isi liye keh raha hn. Abhi tu 6x launch howa hai aA2 abhi thora dair se launch ho ga. Probably Endia mein launch hoga pehly.

  • Xiaomi nay bahot acha chance missed kar dia note 5 ko sahi time per launch na kar kay huawei keep launching new phones every week but all are on high prices honor 9 lite price in Ind 10,999 here 24,999 more then double bec they know they dont have enough competition here in pak in Ind note 5 Pro launched 2 months back here we still waiting by look of it Mi A2 will come here after Note 5 all sold out the best thing xiaomi give is best value for money after note 5 this phone is another camera beast only con is battery koi be company SD 660 45k say kaam main phone nahi day gi they are using new phones with new processors Just Xiaomi need to focus on Pakistan more now if they launched new phones here with other countries no doubt they will give tough competition to huawei especially in pricey and what huawei is giving us

    • Can you please confirm the source of the “knowledge” you shared about xiaomi India.

11k inr is almost 20k pkr (and that’s not even the open market rate) your govt levies additional taxes and customs. And we haven’t even looked at the fact India also has a xiaomi factory which leads to lower prices of production and a bigger market size.

      • 11k is for honor 9 lite not xiaomi
Honor didn’t manufacture in India they also import from China and if you compare with Indian price honor 9 lite price should be max 20k here but honor charging for low end phone in Pakistan is 25k that’s why xiaomi gives more value for money phone’s compared to Huawei,HONOR
If xiaomi start giving us important also these Huawei honor oppo can’t even stand in front of xiaomi in Pakistan just like in India xiaomi become no 1 mobile seller company by beating Even Samsung because in India people mostly buy mid range phone’s that Samsung lacks in mid range

        • You can’t dictate prices to companies because they have their own business models and pricing. You can however not buy the phone twisting the company’s hand to lower the phone’s price. However if people continue to buy phones at these prices since a lot of the users aren’t as tech savvy as you, then these companies will continue to charge high prices.. Remember phone aren’t made for enthusiasts but general public in the long run

          • My friend’s want to buy mate 10 lite or Honor 7x 9 lite i told them wait for redmi note 5 because what Huawei is giving us in this price range is Avg processer kirin 659 which is equal to snapdragon 625 on note 5 its 636
2nd Poor battery life no fast charging its total waste of money only Huawei fan’s can buy it in the end its people choice to buy Huawei etc Huawei it’s way bigger brand in Pakistan compared to xiaomi only 1 year they come to Pakistan 2nd Huawei phones is easily available in market xiaomi mostly sell online that’s save lot’s of marketing costs which favors buyer’s

    • Absolutely right now just look at the launch of P20 lite it’s priced freaking 36k as far as I have seen Pakistani people’s just look two things in phone a stylish look and good camera and thats been the focus of companies like Huawei and oppo just look at the mid-range huawei has filled with stylish full vision display and fake 4 cameras
Pakistani consumers just don’t give a damn F… About internals and that’s what xiaomi is good .
By the looks of it xiaomi Redminote 5 price 25k-26k for 3/32 and 30-31k is justifed.
Inshallah in my hands at Eid

      • For me processes performance is more important than 4 camera’s but you are right people of Pakistan go for selfie phone’s and looks rather knowing what performance will they get

  • So, we have to wait about a year to lunch this phone in Pakistan! because we are still waiting for Note 5 Pro to lunch in Pakistan :'(

    • Blame smartlink for there shity managemmant It has been launched in Malaysia it shouldn’t be that long as smartlink has done
