WhatsApp to Get Group Video Calls

In a bid to make the app more social, WhatsApp is working on video calls for Groups.

While only two parties can make video calls, for now, the upcoming update will double that number to four. WhatsApp is already a major player in the calling market; with more than 2 billion minutes of voice and video calls made on the network already.

Voice and video calling are very popular on WhatsApp, and we’re excited to share that group calling will be coming in the months ahead. Stickers are also coming to WhatsApp soon.

Coupled with the group video calling feature, Whatsapp is also going to get third-party stickers on the app. Both of these features are expected to debut in the coming months.

Whatsapp Co-Founder Leaves Facebook

The world’s largest messaging app made the announcement in Facebook’s F8 conference, almost concealing the news of its co-founder Jan Koum leaving Facebook. The co-founder, who had often clashed with the parent company over the direction WhatsApp was taking, is said to be taking his time off to focus on non-tech-related things.

The announcement likely means the arrival of ads in some way to the platform, though, that is another story.

Zuckerberg thanked Koum for being a “tireless advocate for privacy and encryption”, though, he did note that Facebook played a major part in making the app more secure, including the system-wide implementation of end-to-end encryption.

It was also revealed that the app has exceeded 450 million daily users worldwide by now. WhatsApp for Business has also exceeded 3 million users.

  • Well, they should introduce group audio calling facility as facebook messenger has it already. I have to make conference calls sometimes and I have to use FB messenger or Skype.
