Sindh Launches Smart Cards for Vehicle Registration

In order to eliminate forgery, scam, and to facilitate the citizens, the Sindh Government will now issue smart cards for vehicle registration. These smart cards come with a host of security features and ease of access as compared to older registration books.

Following the Punjab Government’s footsteps, Sindh’s Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla introduced the new smart cards to eliminate the threat of fake registration and to allow greater flexibility to the authorities as electronic devices can now be used to verify vehicles anywhere across Sindh.

Features

It contains a sim card module that can be linked to an electronic reader to verify a vehicle’s data including,

  • CNIC/Passport Details
  • Chassis number
  • Registration number
  • Date of Registration
  • Engine Number
  • Previous registration
  • Token tax expiry date
  • Number of Cylinder
  • Type of body
  • Color of vehicle
  • Maker’s Name
  • Class of vehicle
  • Unladen weight
  • Reg. Laden wight
  • Tyre size
    • Front axle
    • Rear axle
    • Other axle
  • Year of manufacturing
  • Seating capacity
  • Horse power/CC
  • Assessed Annual Tax of RS

Its easier to carry than a traditional booklet, new owners who register their vehicles for the first time will be given a smart card in Sindh from now on. The whole process will cost a nominal fee. Meanwhile, old registration book owners can also get a smart card by re-registering their vehicles.
