Apart from announcing laptops with touchscreens instead of touchpads, Asus also unveiled another line of machines aimed at a more mainstream crowd.

Design

The main attraction here is in the form of the new ErgoLift Hinge, which raises the base of the laptop when it is open, in order to give the user a better view of the keyboard, while also protecting the user’s lap from unwanted heat.

ZenBook S Ultra-Portable

There’s a 13.3″ touchscreen display on the front (with a 178-degree viewing angle), with a choice of either 1080p or 4K resolution. It also supports Tru2Life technology for better calibration of the played content through optimization of settings such as brightness and contrast.

Because of the focus on design, the ZenBook S tips the scales at just 2.3lbs, having an impressive 85% screen-to-body ratio. It keeps things cool with a new liquid-crystal-polymer fan impeller.

Hardware

Underneath, you get one of the newer 8th-generation Intel Core chips, with a choice of either Core i5-8250U or Core i7-8550U processors. There’s up to 16 GB of DDR3-2133 memory, as well as up to 1 TB of PCIe-based SSD. Unfortunately, graphical options are limited to a single HD Graphics 620 module.

Battery and Price

For connectivity, you get a USB-C 3.1 port, as well as 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The battery is said to last up to 13.5 hours on a single charge.

Pricing starts at $1199 for the ZenBook S, which will be launched next week. It’ll be available in a choice of both Deep Dive Blue as well as Burgundy Red.
