A doomsday scenario looms over Islamabad as only 10 days of water supply is left. Senate Standing Committee on Capital Administration and Development discussed the alarming situation of water shortage in the capital yesterday.
The committee learned that water reserves in Islamabad are only enough to meet the demand for 10-15 days. If there is no rain in the next few days, the capital will run out of water.

The acute water shortage isn’t limited to the twin cities only as it has hit several other cities of the country as well.
Karachi’s main source of water supply, Hub Dam, is also drying up quickly as the estimates say that it has reached the dead level.

Karachi faces the same situation as only 10 days of water reserves are left in its main source of supply. If there aren’t any rains in the next few days, Karachi’s water supply will be completely stopped by the end of July.
As per a UN report, per capita supply of water in Pakistan has reduced to 900 cubic meters from 5,260 cubic meters in 1951 in recent years.
The main reason behind this is obviously a huge increase in population and lack of water supply mechanism.
The UN has ranked Pakistan among the five countries that are facing a water crisis. As per international standards, a country must have 120 days of water in stock.
Pakistan shockingly has only 30 days of water storage capacity while the neighbors India has around 220 days of water storage capacity.

Pls understand that building more dams is not the complete solution. Rains have vanished and without rains there will be no water no matter how many dams you build. The population is biggest threat. We have one of the highest growth rates in the world. When you produce so many kids for the sake of strengthening ummah or for ye tau Allah ki marzi hai, you only have yourself to blame. We have unchecked mafias destroying groumd water. Water tanker mafia, service stations and general populace have no restriction whatsoever in getting bored water. How many countries on earth allow that? There is no regulation. It is highly likely that country won’t survive this danger.
What’s the concern about? We have great roads, who needs water….
