Pakistan’s Exports Rise by 10.4% as World Cup Boosts Football Sales to $153 Million

Football’s biggest event is halfway through as the Round of 16 will be concluded today. Although Pakistan is not a participating nation, the country is however providing the majority of the footballs being used at the global stage.

Pakistan is providing the most-technologically-advanced football ever for the FIFA World Cup 2018. The Telstar 18 has already become a fan favorite and it has helped increase the exports of the country by 10.46%.

The Sales

According to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the exports increased by 10.46% in July-May of the current fiscal year as compared to the last year.

The country exported a total of 37.28 million footballs worth a staggering $153.018 million. Last year, Pakistan exported 32.568 million footballs worth $138.3 million during the same period.

Pakistan recorded an increase of 29.4% year-on-year in May 2018 as compared to the same month in 2017.

In May 2018, a total of 4.164 million footballs were sold by Pakistan worth $15.6 million. Last year, during the same month, Pakistan sold 2.712 million footballs valued at $12.083 million.

Talking about month-on-month sales, a 2.02% growth in exports was recorded in May from April 2018. Pakistan exported $15.3 million worth of footballs in April which increased to $15.6 million in May this year.

The FIFA World Cup will end on 15th July. Major contenders such as Spain and Germany are already out after shock defeats in the Round of 16 and Group Stage.
