After delays to the original event, the new Nokia X5 is finally official, bringing a notched display at a very decent price and dual-cameras at the back.
The phone is aimed at lower mid-range users and does a good job of bringing mainstream features to a cheaper phone.
The LCD display at the front covers 84% of the surface, with a notch at the top, giving it a more “premium” look. It measures 5.84-inch in size, has curved glass along the sides, and has HD+ resolution.
The fingerprint sensor is at the back, underneath the cameras.
Under the hood, you get MediaTek’s Helio P60 processor, with either a 3 GB/32 or 4 GB/64 GB RAM/storage combinations.
No one expects a $150 phone to be a powerhouse, but this is one of the areas where the X5 impresses. Helio P60 is not a low-end processor by any means and can easily go toe to toe with the likes of Snapdragon 625.
The camera setup on the back is a 13 MP + 5 MP configuration, with bokeh effect, HDR, and AI-assisted features. The one on the front is an 8 MP shooter.
No word about facial recognition, unfortunately.
The battery capacity is set at 3060 mAh, though, fast-charging likely isn’t available.
Pricing in China is set at $150 for the 3 GB model or around $210 for the 4 GB one. The X5 should launch later this year in more markets, however, don’t expect the same price-tag everywhere.
