An air hostess of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), who slipped away in Canada earlier this months, was traced.
Sources in Pakistan International Airlines told ProPakistani that the flight attendant, Fareeha Mukhtar, who slipped away in Canada earlier this month, was traced. They said that hostess was found to be living with another former flight attendant of the national flag carrier in Glinton city of Canada.
They added that the hostess is presently living with former air hostess Maeeza. An inquiry into her missing ordered by the PIA management revealed that Maeeza in collaboration with her aides helped Fareeha slipped way in Canada. Fareeha was suspended in the past for her involvement in phone smuggling. After the suspension, she was banned from international flights.
The inquiry revealed that Fareehra managed to get the Toronto flight through some office-bearers of People Unity despite being banned for international flights.
Fareeha Mukhtar was part of the crew on a PIA flight from Lahore to Toronto in the second week of September. On its scheduled return to the country, Mukhtar did not turn up in Toronto and the flight of the national flag carrier had to return without her.
When the issue came in the notice of the PIA administration, an inquiry was ordered and she was suspended her from service.
Media reports said that the attendant was suspended a few years ago as well for her alleged involvement in smuggling mobile phones and foreign currency. After that incident she was banned for international duty.
For quite some time, the national flag carrier is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Once dubbed a jewels in the Asian airlines’ crown, the PIA is struggling for last many years to over its financial woes.
In March this year, a crew member of PIA Tanveer Gulzar was arrested in Paris over heroin smuggling charges.
Paris authorities caught the steward while allegedly trying to smuggle heroin. The flight PK-749 had arrived in Paris from Islamabad where the drug worth millions of rupees was recovered from the steward during checking.
A number of incidents involving recovery of narcotics from PIA planes, passengers or staff have been reported.
On May 15, 2017, crew members of PIA were detained at Heathrow Airport by the UK Border Force after heroin was recovered from the hidden parts of the plane. The crew members were kept in detention for five hours on suspicion of their involvement in the smuggling bid.
In August 2016, the UK authorities arrested 12 staffers of PIA after recovery of heroin from the toilets of Dubai-bound flight.
In June 2015, the airline sacked five cabin staffers who had been detained in Britain on the accusation of trying to smuggle mobile phones and foreign currency.
In 2017 a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostess was charged with shoplifting in Toronto.
According to media reports at that time, the national flag carrier’s airhostess Maria Akhund was caught stealing in CCTV footage of the department store.
The department store management handed over the footage to police who interrogated the airhostess and the flight captain.
