Govt Appoints Air Marshall Arshad Malik as PIA Chairman

The government has appointed Air Marshal Arshad Malik as the chairman of Pakistan International Airlines, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry announced on Thursday.

The announcement has come after a cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.

“PIA is in a debt of Rs 406 billion,” said the Information Minister while talking to the media. He added that the national airline faces a debt worth of Rs. 2 billion every month.

“The new chairman of the national carrier has been directed to immediately fix the institution’s economic condition,” he stated.

Notably, Air Marshal Arshad Malik was appointed as the Vice Chief of Air Staff in March 2018.

The Information Minister also announced the appointment of Aoun Abbas as Chairman of Bait-ul-Mal. He resented that the country’s condition is like a ‘house looted by thieves’. “Those responsible for the country’s current state should be taken to court,” he said.

While talking about the PM’s ‘Naya Pakistan’ Housing Program, he said that public land will be used to build the houses and the government shall lease it to people at low rates.

He further told the media that the Speaker National Assembly has issued the production orders of Shahbaz Sharif on the opposition’s request.

Another announcement made by Fawad Chaudhry was regarding government’s crackdown on the smuggling of mobile phones. He stressed that no smuggled phone will be operational by the end of this year.

He also stated that the cabinet discussed the placement and removal of certain names from the Exit Control List (ECL) and mentioned that there are 3000 names on the ECL presently.

He also pledged that the government would complete its projects no matter what. “Details of our 100-day plan can be accessed through our website,” he said.

  • it is an irony that they placed Military aviator for civil aviation. Civil Aviation is completely different from Military Aviation. Morons need to learn that. Just because you serve the military it does not mean that you can get all the experience and become jack of all trades.

    This decision must be rescinded immediately.
