Lenovo Launches S5 Pro and K5 Pro With Dual Cameras and Decent Hardware

Lenovo is launching two new midrange phones, the S5 Pro and K5 Pro with good looking, bezel-less designs and photography-focused features.

The S5 Pro has slightly better features and costs more, it also has a notched display. K5 Pro, on the other hand, is even cheaper with no notch but shares processors with S5 Pro. Internal specifications are pretty much the same, with slightly different cameras and designs.

Let’s see how the two phones compare.

Design & Display

S5 Pro

This one has a bigger display than the K5 Pro measuring 6.2-inches. However, the overall footprint of the two phones is almost identical, the display on the S5 is bigger due to its notched design and trimmed bezels. On the back, there’s a fingerprint sensor on the metal unibody cover.

In addition to a fingerprint sensor, S5 Pro also has a 3D facial recognition infrared sensor on the front.

Display resolution is FHD+ (1080 x 2246), with a 18.7:9 aspect ratio on an IPS LCD Panel.

K5 Pro

K5 Pro has a smaller 5.99-inch display with the same IPS LCD panel and a FHD+ (1080 x 2160) resolution with a tall, notchless 18:9 aspect ratio instead. The rear design is a bit similar, with a similar vertical dual camera array. Do note that even though the display is a bit smaller, the usable area should be the same because of the notch.

This one, however, does not have a 3D IR sensor for facial recognition, and only makes do with a single rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Hardware & Storage

Internal specifications are almost the same in both phones. Memory options, however, are different.

S5 Pro is the more expensive one, which is why it comes with 6GB RAM. There’s no option to go for less memory. You can pick two storage options of either 64 GB or 128 GB.

The other one, K5 Pro, has two memory variants of 6 or 4 GB. The 4GB variant comes with 64 GB storage, while the 6GB RAM variant can be bought with either 64 or 128 GB internal storage.

Both phones are powered by Snapdragon 636, a 1.8 GHz quad-core chipset. S5 Pro has a hybrid dual SIM tray, so you’ll have to replace SIM slot 2 to insert a microSD card (up to 256 GB). K5 Pro, luckily, has a dedicated 256 GB microSD slot instead.

Camera & Software

Both phones have dual cameras on the rear with slightly similar specifications.

S5 Pro

Lenovo S5 Pro’s camera set up consists of a 12MP f/1.8 main camera and a secondary 20MP telephoto shooter, that provides 2x optical zoom.

There are dual cameras on the front as well, with a 20MP main sensor and an 8MP depth sensor. These cameras work with the IR facial recognition sensor for additional effects like studio lighting and beautification.

K5 Pro

The lower-end phone has a slightly older set up, consisting of a basic 16MP primary camera and a 5MP depth sensor. There’s no optical zoom, and no IR sensor, so the phone uses the secondary depth sensor for bokeh effect and other beautification features.

The dual cameras at the front also take 16 MP selfies, with additional selfie effects like background blur using the other 5MP lens.

Software on both phones will be Android 8.1 Oreo, running Lenovo’s ZUI 5.0 skin.

Battery, Price, & Availability

The K5 Pro, even though its the cheaper one, has a larger 4,050mAh battery. It also supports fast charging as well as a USB Type-C port. The other one, S5 Pro also has fast charging and Type-C support, but houses a smaller 3,500mAh battery instead.

K5 Pro is available in Black and Gold, while S5 Pro comes in Black, Gold, and Blue. Pricing is as follows:

  • 6/64 GB — CNY 1,300 (~Rs. 25,000)
