The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched a drive against those defaulting on fines imposed through e-challan for violation of traffic rules in Lahore.
The PSCA has launched an e-challan general hold up to recover the fines imposed on the motorists and motorcyclists for violation of traffic rules through the e-challan system launched by the authority in September.
During the drive, the defaulting motorists and motorcyclists would be identified and traced through the CCTV cameras of the Safe City. The defaulters would be stopped and their vehicles would be impounded till payment of the challans.

The actions against the defaulters would be taken on the important thoroughfares and roads of the city with the help of traffic police.
The E-Challan System was operationalised in Lahore on September 24 2018 after undergoing a successful trial run.
The electronic system records any traffic-related offense and produces a challan with all the necessary details including the pictures of the violation – place and number plate – taken through the CCTV cameras installed throughout the city.
The challan is then sent to the offender through a courier service. For maximum convenience of the motorists, these challans will feature a suitable deadline for payment of fines.

The system has been developed by the joint efforts of the Punjab Police and Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA).
The database will store all the previous records related to the offender. If a person is found violating the traffic rules, again and again, the Punjab Police will be authorized to lock down their vehicle until the payment of due challans.
So far five thousand E-challans are being issued in Lahore on daily basis.
