Afridi’s Comments on Kashmir Create Controversy Yet Again

Former Pakistani captain and flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s comments regarding Kashmir have landed him in trouble once again.

A video is making rounds on social media in which the former Pakistani cricketer said Kashmir should neither be part of Pakistan or India but should be made a separate country.

He was reportedly speaking at a ceremony in London today.

“If this is what it takes to stop the bloodshed, I say don’t give Kashmir to Pakistan as we cannot control its four provinces, it should neither be given to India, rather it should be an independent state,” Afridi said in London.

His remarks attracted the attention of Indian media as soon as the video went viral on social media and made headlines on all the news channels and websites.

This prompted an argument in Pakistan media as well, where the TV channels started to give Afridi a lesson of ‘think before you speak.

However, a clarification from Afridi stated that the viral clip about his speech is incomplete and taken out of context.
Afridi said on Twitter: My clip is incomplete & out of context as what I said before that is missing. Kashmir is unresolved dispute & under brutal Indian occupation. It must be resolved as per UN resolution. Myself along with every Pakistani support Kashmiri freedom struggle. Kashmir belongs to Pakistan.

In another tweet, the star performer said his comments were misconstrued by the Indian media and that he was passionate Pakistan and the struggle of Kashmiris.

  • He should stick to his cricket performance. There are dozens good players that can swap him.
Should leave the Kashmir topic alone
