There is no denying that cricket has become a huge part of our society. With Pakistan Super League (PSL) getting more traction each year, the international image of cricket in Pakistan is slowly but surely improving.
On the same note, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also taken several steps to improve the standards of cricket in Pakistan; be it renovating the stadiums or bringing back the international cricket in the country.
In a bid to take things even further, Pakistan’s first ever AstroTurf cricket stadium has also been unveiled in Chaman, Balochistan on Friday.
The stadium was inaugurated by Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa. Following the inaugural ceremony, the stadium was officially handed over to the cricket association. It is worth mentioning that there are AstroTurf grounds that exist in Pakistan but none of them are dedicated to cricket.
The local teams, Chaman XI took on Qilla Abdullah XI on the AstroTurf pitch as part of the inauguration. Similarly, more cricket matches will also be held on this ground in the future.
The ground has three stands as of now, but the management has shown interest in expanding the stadium capacity later on.
This is indeed a great step to improve the quality of cricket in Pakistan and Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa also emphasized on it in his address. He claimed that Balochistan has great potential and this initiative will not only help the locals but also provide an immaculate facility to all the cricket stars.
He further added:
Peace is visible everywhere. Wherever we go, people ask for good educational institutes and roads.
There is no doubt that Army has helped revive cricket in Pakistan, thanks to their continued support throughout the PSL’s matches which were held in Pakistan. This is another shining example of what Pakistan can achieve if all the departments come together and work towards the betterment of the country.
