Govt to Form a Central Authority to Bring Back Looted Money from Abroad

The federal government has decided to form a central authority which will look into the matters of bringing back the looted money to Pakistan.

The Law ministry has already drafted a proposal in this regard.

The draft sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan for mutual legal assistance proposes to form a committee comprising of members from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The authority would directly report to the Prime Minister and would have special powers, a source close to the matter told.

Earlier, Punjab’s Information and Culture Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan said that the government was serious in bringing back the looted money.

Addressing a ceremony in Lahore, Chohan said the Prime Minister was taking a personal interest in the matter because he has no property abroad, so he fears none.

The minister said FIA had unearthed fifteen thousand fake bank accounts so far and there’s more to come.
