Prime Minister Imran Khan is going to realize another electoral promise by providing free legal assistance to the poor and needy people.
The Prime Minister chaired a meeting regarding the proposed legal reforms aimed at providing quick, inexpensive and speedy justice to the people. He was briefed about the reforms the government is planning to bring in in the legal system.
During the briefing, the law ministry informed the PM it has prepared a bill in this regard, which would allow the government to provide free legal services to underprivileged people in criminal cases.
The government has drafted “Legal Aid and Justice Authority” bill, which would help the people facing fake and baseless cases.
Officials privy to the matter have confirmed that the government was going to establish an authority under the Ministry of Human Rights, which would be headed by the Director General (DG).
The authority will work at local governments’ level, and lawyer panels would be formed in different cities for the provision of legal services to the poor aimed at providing quick justice to them.

PM Khan, in his 100-day agenda, had promised to overhaul and reform the old and outdated justice system.
While addressing an enormous rally in Lahore ahead of the elections, Khan had promised to provide free legal aid to the underprivileged, just like any developed country.
Earlier today, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Media Affairs Iftikhar Durrani said that the government had received 1,71,000 complaints in 24 days on Citizen’s portal. Durrani revealed that the government had solved 16,963 complaints and over 84,000 were in process.
He added that most of these complaints were against the local body and education system.
