Govt Wants to Increase Literacy Rate to 70% Within 4 Years

Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood has said that the government is chalking out a plan to increase the literacy rate from 58 percent to 70 percent in the coming four years.

He said that the education ministry has made a plan called ‘National Literacy Campaign’, which will be launched all over the country.

The minister further added that as per this campaign, the government will establish 5,000 literacy and skills development centers in all districts of the four provinces.

Moreover, there will also be a National Coordination Center to ensure consensus among all the stakeholders in the literacy campaign.

Joint Education Advisor in the Federal Education Ministry Rafiq Tahir shared further details of the campaign. He told that the next meeting on the proposed literacy campaign will take place on January 16.

He said that once finalized, the draft literacy campaign will be launched after getting approval by the cabinet.

The education advisor said that the ministry will take onboard the chief ministers of all provinces and the provincial education ministers before launching the campaign.

Moreover, the Ministry of Education will set up a National Curriculum Council (NCC) to accomplish the desired goals in the education sector.
