Fawad Ch Misquoted Ghalib’s Poetry and People Are Really Angry

Mirza Ghalib was the last influential Urdu and Persian poet of the Mughal era and his ghazals are still loved and sung by people in Pakistan and India.

Ghalib has been immensely popular in Pakistan and when someone misreads or misquotes his verses or couplets, the social media brigade becomes active.

The Foreign Minister for Information, Fawad Chaudhry knows this all too well after his tweet, where he misquoted Ghalib’s couplet. Sharing a National Accountability (NAB) notice over the microblogging platform, the minister wrote:

ہر اک بات پہ کہتے ہو کہ تو کیا ہے۔۔۔۔ تمھیں کہو یہ انداز گفتگو کیا ہے ۔۔۔۔۔

The actual piece of poetry reads:

ہر ایک بات پہ کہتے ہو تم کہ تو کیا ہے

تمہیں کہو کہ یہ انداز گفتگو کیا ہے

Missing out a ‘تم’ in the first verse was all it needed to trigger the social media, where users started bashing Mr. Chaudhry. Let’s have a look at how people reacted to his mistake.

Faisalabadi is not going easy on him.

Someone (from his own party) sympathizing with Chaudhry.
