Enabling the option temporarily hides captions, buttons, and other interface elements, allowing users to watch a video without on-screen distractions.

Faster Playback

Shorts will also support playback at twice the normal speed.

The new 2x option will allow users to move through videos more quickly.

New Like Button

YouTube is replacing the thumbs-up button on Shorts with a heart icon.

The company is making the change to give interactions a more personal appearance.

Dislike Button Removed

YouTube is removing the dislike button from Shorts.

Users will instead be able to provide more specific feedback by selecting options such as “Not interested” and “Don’t recommend this channel.”

Easier Muting

YouTube is also simplifying the process of muting a Short.

Users can pause a video by tapping the screen and then select the new mute button to turn off its audio.
