Only 40% of Traffic Signals are Functional in Islamabad: ITP

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has made a shocking revelation that only 40 percent of traffic signals installed in the federal capital are in working condition.

While speaking to the national newswire agency APP, a senior ITP officer told on the condition of anonymity that out of total 83 traffic signals, just 40 percent are functioning correctly.

He stated that the department had made repeated requests to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), but all in vain.

The official termed this as a primary reason behind department’s abysmal performance. According to him, ITP has time and again contacted CDA about the malfunctioning signals but received no response, apparently due to financial constraints.

He urged the higher authorities to take prompt action as faulty signals may lead to fatal accidents. When contacted, a CDA official from Traffic and Engineering Wing confirmed that the ITP had highlighted the issue.

He further added that a proposal had been sent to the Engineering and Maintenance wing which finalized it and forwarded to high-ups for final approval.

The CDA official, however, refuted the claim made by ITP personnel.

According to him, there were total 104 signals installed in the Zone-I of the Federal capital out of which 75 were working, 16 were out of order, and 13 had been closed due to certain reasons.
