Telenor Had the Fastest Mobile Network in the World in 2018

Late last year, Ookla announced that Telenor is the world’s fastest mobile network based on second-quarter measurements from 2018. However, in the latest news, Telenor has also been awarded the fastest mobile connection award for the whole of 2018.

Speedtest by Ookla is one of the most definitive ways to test the speed and performance of any internet connection. Since its inception in 2006, over 20 billion tests have been undertaken by Speedtest.

Telenor registered the highest average download speed with 71.97.

Speaking about the achievement, Bjørn Ivar Moen, Acting CEO of Telenor Norway, said:

For more than a century, Telenor has been building a solid foundation in order to deliver the very best services possible. However, our country continues to challenge us with its vast mountains and deep fjords. That is why we’re especially proud of these results. We have ambitious expansion plans moving forward and these will continue throughout 2019.

Ookla confirmed that over 500,000 customers initiated a speedtest in Norway in 2018; these measurements are the fundamental basis of the results.

The telco further said:

The fact that mobile customers themselves have tested the speed under conditions they normally use their mobile phones, makes these tests extra valuable and reliable. The average speed from all of these measurements were then compared with corresponding numbers from other mobile operators around the world.

According to Telenor’s official source, their data traffic across the globe is increasing 30 to 40 percent every year. To meet these growing demands, the organization has set its goal clear: to slowly phase out 3G country-by-country and increase the capacity of the 4G networks.

Thanks to the company’s focus on 4G, it overtook other telcos in average speeds as 2018 progressed.

It is worth mentioning here that despite Telenor’s impressive performances throughout the world, Jazz is still the fastest mobile network within Pakistan.
