Govt Issues Terrorist Threat Alert for Universities in Peshawar

The federal government has issued a threat alert against a possible terrorist attack in leading public universities in Peshawar.

The threat was issued by National Counter-terrorism Authority (NCA) on Tuesday.

It mentions that a terrorist of Jamat ul Ahrar, namely Akhtar Zaman alias Sher Zaman, is planning to carry out a suicide attack at Islamia College Peshawar, a university located in Hayatabad, and a college located near Khyber Teaching Hospital.

“In this connect; planning and reconnaissance have already been carried out. The target of some other educational institutions in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, especially Peshawar, cannot be ruled out,” the notification read.

The notification warns the prime minister’s office, the presidency, provincial and federal governments, and all the concerned authorities to stay vigilant and to beef up the security.

The threat has come weeks after a car bomb attack in Bara Market of Peshawar left one injured.
