The Government of Punjab has approved a Rs. 150 million grant for the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to support the revival and development of hockey in the country.
According to a press release, the grant was approved on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif after a formal request was submitted by the PHF.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee chaired by Senior Minister Punjab Maryam Aurangzeb. Provincial Finance Minister, Secretary Finance, Secretary Sports, and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
The funding will be used to promote hockey at the grassroots level, identify new talent, improve coaching standards, strengthen technical development, and build capacity across the sport.
“On the direction of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Government of Punjab has approved a grant of Rs. 150 million for the promotion of hockey at the grassroots level and for strengthening technical and coaching development across Pakistan,” the press release stated.
The Punjab government said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to reviving national sports, particularly hockey, which holds a historic place in Pakistan’s sporting identity.
A PHF spokesperson thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and the provincial cabinet for their timely support.
The federation said the grant would play an important role in rebuilding hockey infrastructure, improving performance standards, and creating new opportunities for young athletes across the country.
