PIA Claims Faisalabad & Quetta Airport Runways Aren’t Usable

The runways of Faisalabad International Airport and Quetta International Airport are unsuitable to land wide-body aircraft like Boeing 777, a letter from PIA has revealed.

According to a local daily, the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has written a letter to Director General (DG) Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Sqn. Ldr. (Retd) Shahrukh Nusrat, in which he has informed him about the poor quality of airport runways.

“The runways of Faisalabad and Quetta airports are not fit for the landing of Boeing 777 aircraft,” the letter stated.

It mentions that PIA’s senior pilots had already lodged several complaints regarding the matter and therefore, the airline would halt Boeing flights to these airports.

The letter informed the CAA chief about PIA’s decision to use Airbus 320 instead of Boeing 777 for Hajj flights operating from airports mentioned above.

PIA has also asked CAA to make sure passengers strictly follow the ‘baggage allowance’ to avoid any untoward situation.

It should be mentioned here that former premier, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, had inaugurated the expansion project of Faisalabad International Airport in January last year.

The project increased the number of the facilitation counters and handling capacity of domestic and international passengers.
