New WhatsApp Update Will Bring Design Changes & Biometric Verification

One of the most popular messaging platform on the planet, WhatsApp, continues to see billions of users worldwide and to keep up with the competition and to provide useful features, the Facebook-owned company is adding a slew of features in the app’s latest beta version.

New Beta Details

The new beta has been available for Android devices for a while now and we can see the changes that WhatsApp is going to bring in the following months.

The most notable change is in the “Media” section which you can now access in an individual chat or a group chat. When you select an image, you’ll be presented with 3 new options.

The first one is “Show in Chat”. What this does is that it traces the chat back to when you shared the picture or video and highlights the media item inside the chat.

The “Set as..” option is new, before this, you had Set as Profile Picture or Set as Group Icon separately but now they have both been placed under the Set as… option so the menu does look a bit cleaner now.

Lastly, there’s a “rotate” option now which lets you rotate the preview image directly instead of opening up the image first and then rotating it.

Moreover, according to WABetaInfo, a beta build for Android was spotted having 21 new emoji designs and a dark mode. A fingerprint authentication feature has also been rumored in the beta builds but it is disabled by default. This will allow you to verify the two-step verification prompt with just a fingerprint instead of typing in your code each time.

Do note that since this is a beta build, you might encounter some problems so it’s probably best if you stick with the regular versions available from the Play Store and wait for the new features to roll out.
