Punjab Health Minister, Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, has announced that the issuance of Sehat Sahulat Cards will start from February 22.
The statement released by the ministry, citing the provincial health minister, states that 30 million people and 3.7 million families will benefit from the Sehat Sahulat Cards.
During the initial phase, the government shall distribute the cards among the 50 percent population of the province. The minister further said that there will be a complete check and balance of the record of the ‘Sehat Sahulat Cards’ program.
By the end of March 2019, 0.8 million cards will be distributed in four districts. The government will complete the distribution of cards across the province by the end of December. By that time, 7.2 million ‘Sehat Sahulat Cards’ will be provided to 35 million individuals of Punjab.

She said that the main purpose of this scheme is to include those segments of the society who do not have enough resources to avail the health facilities.
Dr. Yasmin added that the cardholders can get free medical treatment worth Rs. 720,000. Moreover, patients are also provided an additional Rs.1000 through the card so that they can travel to the hospital.
The government has allocated a budget of Rs. 7 billion in the head of ‘Sehat Sahulat Cards’. The eligibility criteria of candidates for Sehat Sahulat Cards in every district will be fixed with the help of the national economic survey.
She said that the government is taking steps on a priority basis to ensure the health of mothers and their children.
The minister maintained that the middle class forms a major portion of our society. Yet, it faces difficulties for in the treatment of any disease.
