FIA Arrests Man for Blackmailing People After Stealing Their Phone Data

The Cyber Crime Cell of the Federal Investigation Agency in Lahore has arrested a man for blackmailing and harassing people online.

30-year-old Ali Akbar was reportedly arrested on Monday after FIA received several complaints against him.

According to FIA officials, Ali Akbar ran a mobile repair shop and was accused of stealing the personal data from the phones brought to him for repair.

He used to blackmail and harass people on the basis of their personal data and extorted money.

When the complaints piled up against him, FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing raided his shop and arrested him. Officials also seized his laptop and mobile phone and recovered the victims’ data.

Such cases have become a regular occurrence these days. In January, FIA arrested a man from Lahore’s Ali Town on Raiwind Road for luring women into making unethical videos for blackmailing, media reports said.

According to an FIA official, they had found three ‘objectionable’ videos on the mobile phone of the suspect. They did not elaborate on the content though.
