50 illegal car showrooms, restaurants and shops in Jamshed Quarters, Karachi have been shuttered by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on the directions of Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh.
These businesses were shuttered for using residential plots to carry out their trade. The crackdown had mixed results because while it started at 8 am, it was later stopped because district management withdrew their support.

This operation comes hot on the heels of the much-maligned anti-encroachment drive that was undertaken on the orders of the Supreme Court.
The drive came under fire from the provincial government, the city government and the general populace. The drive was criticized for its heavy-handed approach and targeting low socio-economic class. It left hundreds homeless and without livelihoods, though, the drive did find a some supporters for trying to restore the city to its ‘Old Glory’.
