India Launches Police Investigation After Discovering ‘Made in Pakistan’ Bedsheet

Police in India’s Pune city have launched an investigation after a bedsheet bought at a religious fair was found carrying a “Made in Pakistan” label after it was washed.

The incident surfaced in the Chinchwad area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, where a woman had purchased the bedsheet from a stall set up during the Sankashti Chaturthi fair near the Morya Gosavi Temple complex.

According to the woman, the product appeared normal at the time of purchase and there was nothing unusual about it. She said the tag only became visible after the bedsheet was washed, prompting concerns over how a product allegedly made in Pakistan had reached a local market in Maharashtra.

The woman later posted a video on social media, where she questioned the presence of the item at the fair. The clip quickly went viral, drawing public attention and triggering an official response.

Following the video’s circulation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police formed a special team to trace the origin of the bedsheet and examine the supply chain through which it was sold. Police have also written to the municipal corporation and sought action if any violations are established during the probe.

The bedsheet was reportedly bought on Wednesday when large crowds had gathered at the temple for Sankashti Chaturthi celebrations.

Investigators are now trying to determine where the product came from, who supplied it to the vendor, and whether similar items are being sold through a broader network.

The development comes days after three people were arrested in Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar district for allegedly selling cosmetic products carrying “Made in Pakistan” labels.
