Shoaib Malik Named as Unofficial Vice-Captain of Pakistan for World Cup 2019

Former Pakistan captain and veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik is going to be named as the unofficial vice-captain of Pakistan cricket team during the upcoming mega-event.

Reports claim that Malik will shoulder the responsibility of leading the team if Sarfraz Ahmed is unavailable for any reason.

Malik has plenty of experience under his belt as he has led a number of teams including the Pakistan’s national team. His recent cameos as skipper have come during the tour of South Africa after Sarfraz was banned for passing racist remarks.

The sources claim that the selection committee and the management could not unanimously agree on one name. This is why they decided to keep Malik as Sarfraz’s unofficial deputy.

In addition to this, the source added that PCB has been wanting to groom young players to take up on more responsibility but want to revert to Malik’s experience during the mega-event.

The possible candidates for vice-captain after Malik’s retirement are Babar Azam and Shadab Khan.
