IHC Orders PTA to Make a Decision About Unregistered Mobile Phones

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) 30 days to decide on the fate of unregistered mobile phones in the country.

The orders were given on Tuesday in a detailed verdict. Earlier on April 12, PTA’s earlier decision to block unregistered mobiles was challenged in the court.

The court deemed the petition as ‘premature’ while directing the telecommunications authority to block the unregistered phones within a period of one month. The case was heard by Justice Athar Minallah.

Earlier, IHC had advised PTA to collaborate with the mobile companies to resolve the issue on a priority basis.

“The stance of the companies is correct and the PTA should mend the issue on priority basis while extending its previous deadline”, Justice Athar Minallah remarked.
